Catalin Brylla
Catalin is Principal Lecturer in Film and Television in the Faculty of Media and Communication at Bournemouth University. He teaches and researches in the areas of film spectatorship, cognitive media theory, stereotypes, stigma, representation and disability. He advocates for the understanding of how audio-visual and narrative representation impacts on society’s understanding of marginalised social groups, aiming to reduce social stigma. He has pursued this through his documentary films The Terry Fragments, June’s Patchwork and Zanzibar Soccer Dreams (with Florence Ayisi) and his publications, such as the edited volumes Documentary and Disability (with Helen Hughes) and Cognitive Theory and Documentary Film (with Mette Kramer).
Jens Eder
Jens Eder is Professor of Dramaturgy and Aesthetics of Audiovisual Media at Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf in Potsdam, Germany. His research focuses on narration and emotion in audiovisual media, their reception and impact, their current transformations, and their relations to society. He is one of the PIs of the research project Attention Strategies of Video Activism on the Social Web (2015-2022) and wrote or co-wrote four monographs and various articles on film, video, politics, and affect. He also co-edited seven anthologies, including Image Operations (with Charlotte Klonk, Manchester UP 2017) and the thematic issue #Emotions of NECSUS (with Julian Hanich and Jane Stadler, 2019).
Tobias Gralke
Tobias Gralke works in the cultural sector, in political education, and democracy research. He studied literature/philosophy at the University of Freiburg, Cultural Studies at the University of Hildesheim, and Human Rights (School of Advanced Study) & Sustainable Development (SOAS) at the University of London. He is currently a research fellow on the project ‘Attention Strategies of Video Activism on the Social Web’ at the University of Bonn and conducts a PhD project on political climate communication at the Film University of Babelsberg.
